  1. Don’t know about the rest of Diane’s readers, but I have been an employer. Even back in the 80s and 90s white boys were lazy and usually required a babysitter to get the job done on time and properly. Being in the landscape industry means you are expected to work while on the clock. Went through a spell that we couldn’t fill our positions and started hiring Mexicans. With a few exceptions, they could outwork and outshine most of the locals. I’ve never been racist and treated all the guys equally, but there is a huge gap between the work ethic of Americans and those from other countries. That being said, I am horrified at the lack of ambition and poorly educated minds of today’s younger crowd. A job at BP is too much for lots of them… way too much to remember! Then you look at the common behavior on college campuses and it’s no surprise that no serious business is interested in employing such spoiled rotten, out of control folks entering the work force. They demand huge salaries and add little to no value. A lot of them want mommy and daddy at job interviews! Gee, I wonder why they are passed over.

As Diane said earlier in comments, if you want to live the American dream be your own boss. Every penny you earn will go to you alone (well, the part the IRS doesn’t steal from you). A j.o.b. stands for Just Over Broke. Instead of going to college with your eyes focused on how much the top earners in that field make annually – figure out what you truly love doing and excel. You’re gonna spend 40-50 years at it… most of your life, so you better love it. Otherwise, you’ll have squandered your life making someone else’s dream come true while fattening their bank account instead of yours. So if you want to climb the corporate ladder remember that they only want the best in their club. You can’t be the best if you spent those college years non-stop partying and protesting for terrorist groups in other countries, or burning down US cities.

These big companies have a valid point that the only way they find brilliance is importing it. Yes, there are brilliant Americans, but those are few and far between.

  2. Another point with H1B applicants, they can’t job hop and are pretty much stuck as a corporate “slave” until they get a green card. This process takes years and if they leave the hosting company they either start over or go back to their home country.
US citizens can move around relatively freely and tell corporations to “ take this job and shove it!”, if they choose.

  3. US universities are the best in the world. Sure, you can get a crap degree in women’s studies or queer something, but the only people who do that have wealthy parents and are too stupid to get a real degree. I went back to school in midlife, in my 30’s. Obtained a B.S. degree and changed careers. What I saw in higher education shocked me. I had quit high school in the tenth grade and went to work. I was in college only a year and was tutoring students there who could not read or write. They were totally unprepared for higher education. Our universities are world class, but our primary education system is a complete failure. Tell me how I should have been able to tutor these kids when all I had was a tenth grade education from before the system was ruined.

  4. I can always spot the imposters by their glittering generalities. “…They blatantly lie, or tell cherry-picked half truths, which are promptly disseminated in social media by an army of bullies who are seemingly not interested in civil debate.”

Yep, they said that. Not one shred of DD, nothing to back it up. Yet idjits (even PhD department heads) lap it up as gospel. I recently had one repeat to me the failed accusation from the Atlantic article of DJT calling fallen US veterans “losers”.

As you say in this article, the accusers then double-triple down on their assertions, such as that phony general later saying in his Tell All book “yes I was there and heard him say it”.

    FFS.

  5. Sometimes the Truth is hard to handle…

“The truth is that those being hired are very very good in those fields (IT, for example) because those cultures don’t mess around with education.

Their kids aren’t getting home from school and playing Call Of Duty – they’re getting home and studying.

What I’m getting from it is: “We are gonna hire the best for the job” – As it should be.

Unfortunately America has slid so far down the educational totem pole that we are sniffing dirt and can’t offer up “the best” for all of these positions anymore like we could in the past. It’s a harsh reality, but a reality nonetheless. One that must be addressed and fixed.

How do you fix that? Fix the education system and fix the culture. Make learning great again.”

    1. I was a victim of their brand of corporate-think… everything had to be outsourced because “you can hire a Chinese PhD cheaper than a U.S. high school graduate.

Ever looked deeply into what it takes to get a post-graduate degree in other countries? There is a reason that so many countries send their kids here – at great expense – to be educated.

Yes, a large proportion of young Americans seem to be getting worthless degrees, but that’s always been the case. We used to call those courses “Underwater Basket Weaving”.

But the ones who get the engineering degrees, the computer science degrees, (in fact any scientific curriculum degree) are serious students, on par with anyone else on the planet.

In my experience, hiring from outside the USA is either due to laziness or ineptitude on the part of the HR department, some pre-hire personal bias on the part of the management, or a corporate mandate to support more Diversity because “it’s better”.

    2. The cold hard truth when you pull back the veil is filled with all sorts of motives. The American dream in the land of opportunity is to build your own business – be an entrepreneur and that is the dream they are killing, and in its place slapping grads into corporate structure, the US citizens can labor in their mills and make their entrepreneurial concepts. (Learn from the industrial revolution) The thrust as we saw in the plandemic lock downs was to destroy small business and leave the Vanguard chain stores wide open with compliance mandates. Live theater drill to obey. The cast system in India makes for indentured servants and not small businesses. A.I. is the future mechanism of control. Servitude, and now we are watching the debate come out into the open. There is a lot that will be revealed. It is just beginning.

    3. Yes, I understand what you are saying. I am a nanny for two girls(ages 11 and 8). When they come home from school, all they want to do is head for playing or entertainment. Our culture and parents have allowed them access to so much media that they can’t use any self control( there is an Alexa in almost every room of course). It is sad because they have potential. The interest is not there and is very hard to get their attention when the world has them mesmerized. But isn’t this what the establishment wants for Americans? Bread and circuses? They want us dumbed down. Only when we have children who are kept from the tell-a-lie-vision and taught by the parents who teach them skills can they be productive. So we are now to Make America Great Again by bringing in foreigners who are smarter than Americans???
